Introduction: “Strengthening Afghanistan Institutions Capacity for the Assessment of Agriculture Production and Scenarios Development” organized a training workshop on basic and advance Quantum Geographic Information System (Q-GIS) for 6 days from 18^th – 23^rd of January, 2020.

 Within the result framework of the National Agro-ecological zoning project activities, organized a training workshop on Quantum Geographic Information System (Q-GIS). The aim of the workshop was to initiate participants into the QGIS. It helped the participants develop their skills using open source Geographic Information System (GIS) software.

The training workshop provided a basic and advance concept of Geographical Information System to understanding the tools and features of GIS terminology and QGIS software. As example, describe the GIS terminology, GIS data type, projection and coordinate system, GIS application theory and practical terms, practice with creating new project, create new shape file, digitizing of rivers, roads, canals and other structures, geo referencing of the maps and satellite imageries, geo processing tools, export and import files, prepare different purpose map or thematic maps, map layouting, plotting maps and introduction GPS, how it works and provide the facility to create high quality output.

The training workshop developed individual capacity in using GIS software and GPS devices. The computer based practical sessions were complimented by presentations a brief field exercise and group working.

As of The “Strengthening Afghanistan Institutions Capacity for the Assessment of Agriculture Production and Scenarios Development” goals and objectives, build capacity, trained and to enhance and strengthen the capacities of key partner of National Agro-ecological zoning project in utilizing of using GIS software and GPS device technology for increasing the accuracy of their outputs and achieve their ministry and directorate goals and objective for taking smart deceptions.
