FAO began providing support to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) in 2018, to improve the scope of the country’s ongoing annual Georgian Survey of Agricultural Holdings (GSAH) through the application of the AGRIS methodology and the introduction of two rotating modules.
Over the years, relevant variables from the rotating economy module – such as quantity and value of inputs used, labour on holdings, and agricultural income and expenditure – were added to the GSAH, providing data for the computation of major economic aggregates such as productivity and profitability and the SDG indicators 2.3.1 and 2.3.2.
The rotating module Production Methods and Environment was introduced in 2021, enabling the collection of data required for the computation of SDG indicator 2.4.1 (land area under productive and sustainable agriculture). In 2022 the rotating module on Machinery, Equipment and Assets was implemented providing the necessary data to calculate the SDG indictors 5.a.1(a) and 5.a.1(b).
FAO’s technical support to the country includes capacity development activities on the optimization of sample design, development and revision of questionnaires to improve efficiency and accommodate more modules and improvements to the tabulation programme.
The programme also provides support in the dissemination of survey results, including training on data cleaning, processing and tabulation, as well as on survey cataloguing and in particular on microdata anonymization.
