In Nepal, FAO is working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) and the National Statistics Office (NSO - formerly Central Bureau of Statistics - CBS), to design and implement the National Agricultural Survey (NAS) programme under the scope of the 50x2030 Initiative.
The programme objective is to contribute towards improving availability, timeliness and quality of agricultural data, and strengthen the national agricultural statistics system. Starting in 2024, Nepal officially became a member of the 50x2030 Initiative. The support received in the context of the Initiative includes technical assistance in the production of agricultural statistics in sub-provincial level, using Small Area Estimation techniques, as deemed possible and relevant.
FAO provided technical support on survey preparation and data dissemination during the 2019 Chitwan Pilot, and then in 2021 for the Commercial Integrated Livestock Survey (CLIS), which both implemented the Production Method and Environment module.
