Agricultural integrated survey programme (AGRISurvey)

Sierra Leone

Under the umbrella of the 50x2030 Initiative, FAO supports Sierra Leone in improving the existing agricultural data collection system, in close collaboration with Statistics Sierra Leone and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, who jointly lead the implementation of national surveys.

FAO is providing technical assistance in setting up all the aspects related to preparation and implementation of the national agricultural surveys, following the 50x2030 approach.

According to the roadmap, the country will implement five rounds of annual core agricultural survey, that collects data on production (crops, livestock, aquaculture, fisheries and forestry), with the addition of other key agricultural variables needed on an annual basis and rotating modules.

This approach will provide the country with new sets of data, enabling decision makers to craft policies to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to sustainable agricultural development.in addition, the annual agricultural survey will generate important data to monitor the SDG indicators mainly on SDG 2 and the CAADP indicators.

The country is giving special attention to mainstreaming women’s empowerment and nutrition into its national agricultural survey, being one of the pilot countries for the integration of the WEN questionnaire, a survey tool to measure the empowerment and dietary diversity of women living in agricultural households.
