Taxonomy Virtual course
29/06/2026 - 03/07/2026
The five‑day virtual course provides foundational and applied knowledge in zoological systematics with a focus on fish taxonomy for participants involved in FAO EAF‑Nansen Programme research. It includes structured lectures, practical exercises, and daily assessments across five modules: fundamentals of systematics; the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature; phylogenetics and molecular approaches; methods in fish taxonomy including morphology and meristics; and taxonomic manuscript writing. Emphasis is placed on study cases from Nansen survey data, use of global biodiversity repositories, and preparation for subsequent in‑person post‑survey taxonomy workshops.
