FISH4ACP is hosting a global forum on aquatic food value chains, examining how they can help transform food systems and contribute to feed a growing world population while keeping the planet healthy.

The forum will take place in Dar es Salaam Tanzania on 12-13 September 2024 and puts a spotlight on good practices and lessons learnt in aquatic food value chain development from FISH4ACP and related value chain initiatives.

The event builds on international momentum in support of food systems transformation sparked by the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit that has galvanized a global movement of food producers, civil society, academia, the private sector and the UN system.

Early results of FISH4ACP’s work with local authorities, fishing communities, and value chain stakeholders to unlock the potential of sustainable fisheries and aquaculture in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, shows the power of its innovative value chain approach in stimulating inclusive growth, bolstering food security and minimizing impacts on the environment.

The forum offers an opportunity to share the knowledge that FISH4ACP and other initiatives have generated with public and private sector representatives, value chain experts and practitioners, partner organizations and the donor community.

At the same time, the event aims to foster debate on how blue food value chain development can help shape national and global policies, and pursue the following objectives:

  • Improve understanding of the contribution of aquatic food value chain development to international policies including the UN’s 2030 Agenda, the European Union’s Green Deal and FAO’s Blue Transformation agenda
  • Identify good practices, lessons learnt and opportunities for expansion of aquatic food value chain development by FISH4ACP and other value chain initiatives
  • Explore investment opportunities to upscale blue food value chain development within countries and by the donor community.
