The Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions - Silva Mediterranea will hold an extraordinary session as a satellite event during the 26th Session of the FAO Committee on Forestry (COFO), which will take place on 4 October 2022 from 8:30–9:45 AM (UTC +2) and on 5 October from 12:45–14:15 AM (UTC +2) in the Iran Room of the FAO Headquarters.

The extraordinary session of the Committee will allow Members to convene and share their views on new initiatives launched since the twenty-fourth session of Silva Mediterranea, which took place during the Seventh Mediterranean Forest Week (7MFW) in Antalya, Türkiye, in March 2022. 

The extraordinary session will be followed on 7 October 2022 from 10.00–11.30 AM (UTC +2) in the Iran Room by a debriefing of the 7MFW, which discussed the role of youth in the region to protect and restore Mediterranean forests, promoting their sustainable use and making them more resilient to the threats of climate change. 

The session will also initiate the organization of the Eighth Mediterranean Forest Week (8MFW) and the 25th Session of the Committee on Mediterranean Forestry Questions - Silva Mediterranea to be held in Tunisia in April 2024 with the establishment of its Joint Organizing Committee.

These events will allow delegations to optimize their presence in Rome for both COFO and the sessions of Silva Mediterranea. The sessions will be held in hybrid modality with participant members of Silva Mediterranea.
