The Initiative 20x20, Bonn Challenge and AFOLU 2040 Joint Meeting on Restoring Degraded Lands in Latin America will take place from 8 to 9 February 2023 in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize.

The central theme of this event is innovative land-based actions for mitigation and adaptation to support the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (UN Decade). The target audience includes ministers and government officials from Latin America, technical and financial partners of the Initiative 20x20, Latin American partners of the Bonn Challenge, regional partners of the UN Decade, and multilateral international institutions and donors.

Country leaders, private investors and technical partners from across Latin America and the Caribbean are convening in San Pedro to connect among converging agendas and pursue the following objectives:

1. present areas of collaboration between Initiative 20x20, the Bonn Challenge and AFOLU 2040 under the UN Decade;
2. streamline intersectoral cooperation between environment and agriculture for the restoration and transformation of food systems; and
3. highlight evidence of accelerated implementation on the ground through collaboration.

The key points of discussion will concern the best strategies to get resources from climate funds to the ground, accelerate the transfer of climate finance to implement sustainable or nature-based solutions for restoration, improve coordination to support countries and increase private-sector participation to accelerate implementation.
