Recognizing the need for a practical guidance for government authorities and policymakers in the implementation of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF), a second regional consultation on the development of FAO Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) has been held on 16-18 November 2020. The consultation will focus on the Asia region.

event was run by the Aquaculture Branch (NFIA) and the Policy Economics and Institutions Branch (NFIP), working together for the project entitled “Support to global consultations to developing sustainable aquaculture guidelines”. The project is funded by the Korea Maritime Institute of the Republic of Korea; and the Government of the Kingdom of Norway provided kind support for the first steps of scoping and development work of the GSA

The virtual consultation aimed to:

(1) present current policies and practices related to aquaculture in the region;

(2) review existing regional sustainable aquaculture guidance and assess gaps that GSA could address;

(3) consult on the development process of GSA in the regional perspective, and;

(4) discuss potential regional case study concepts.
