GSA - Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture

The Eastern Europe and Central Asia Consultation

04/03/2021

The series of regional consultation organized by FAO for the development of the Guidelines for Sustainable Aquaculture (GSA) continues with a virtual meeting with Eastern Europe and Central Asia representatives.

GSA aims to be a practical guidance to government authorities and policymakers in their efforts of promoting the implementation of CCRF, and enabling aquaculture to effectively participate in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The event, organized by the Fisheries Division (NFI), and funded by the Korea Maritime Institute of the Republic of Korea (KMI) and the Korea’s Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF), will take place in virtual mode from 29 to 31 March 2021, 9:00–12:00 (CET).

The objectives of the consultation are:

  • Share current policies and practices related to aquaculture in the region to inform GSA, currently under development by the FAO Secretariat.
  • Review existing regional sustainable aquaculture guidance that has been developed and assess if there are gaps that the GSA could help fill.
  • Develop a list of priority thematic modules, both those of regional strength and those that are regional challenges.
  • Propose case studies from the Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries.
