The future of MAFAP in Western Africa was discussed with the UEMOA commission and the Minster for Agriculture of Burkina Faso

02 Apr 2013
During his mission from 26 to 28 March, the MAFAP Manager met with representatives of the Commission in charge of the agricultural sector to discuss the main achievements of MAFAP in Burkina Faso and Mali and the potential for future collaboration on MAFAP in Western Africa.

It was proposed and agreed that a technical seminar to present and discuss the results of MAFAP to the WAEMU members states will be held in the coming weeks. The idea of an expansion of MAFAP to other WAEMU countries is envisioned and will be further discussed in the context of this seminar.

During the same mission, a meeting with the new Minister for Agriculture of Burkina Faso took place. The Minister has expressed support to the work being carried out by MAFAP as the analyses, reports and policy briefs provided are of high value to improve evidence-based decisions. The analytical capacities of the local MAFAP team hosted in the Ministry of Agricultural were particularly appreciated. Ensuring sustainability of this capacity and ownership of the results are priorities for the Ministry.
