WaPOR data used in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon to support irrigation

On the occasion of World Water Day 2023, 22 March, the FAO Investment Center, in conjunction with the World Bank, released a brief that features WaPOR data on the key topic of agricultural water management.
The chosen date for the release of the brief illustrates the importance that new technologies can play in a more sustainable use of our water resources, especially in agriculture, which is the largest water user worldwide. As stakeholders are meeting in New York for the midpoint of the water decade (2018-2028), this brief adds to the conversation suggesting that water managers and decision-makers consider tapping into the potential of remote sensing data, such as WaPOR data, to support their practices and decisions.
Here are some suggested actions to find out more about the topic and the work done in the Bekaa Valley:
- read the article in the FAO Investment Center website that summarises the work described in the brief
- read the brief itself
- watch and share a video that promotes the role that satellite data can play in how we interact and manage our agrifood systems
