The Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP)

TAP Global Task Force holds first meeting in Montpellier, France, from 10 to 11 April 2014

The Global Task Force brings together 16 representatives of different fora on agricultural research for development, international organizations and donor agencies, which are all active in Capacity Development (CD) for Agricultural Innovation Systems (AIS). The following organizations are members of the Task Force: APAARI, CABI, CATAS, CGIAR, EFARD, FAO, FARA, FORAGRO, GCHERA, GFAR, GFRAS, GIZ, USAID and the World Bank. AARINENA and CACAARI joined as observers.

Participants in the meeting in Montpellier used the opportunity to share their experiences with CD for AIS and committed to improving its coherence through a common CD Framework. Examples of successful CD interventions and of those that did not deliver on the expected outcomes served to identify important capacity gaps and to discuss the requirements for a more coherent approach.

The modalities for developing the common Framework on Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems were agreed by all participants. The Framework will be based on a thorough review of existing resources. It will include guidelines, tools for needs and impact assessment and learning resources, which will be open access. A group of experts will soon start working on the review and the development of the different Framework components.
