There are 185 million indigenous women worldwide. They are fisherwomen, pastoralists, hunter-gatherers and defenders of their lands and natural resources. Despite their economic and social contribution, indigenous women are often excluded from decision-making processes. Their work is often undervalued and unpaid, and their rights are not always respected. It is estimated that there are more than 185 million indigenous women in the world belonging to different regions and cultures. Although their way of life and traditions are not the same, most of them play a crucial role in guaranteeing the food security of their communities and in protecting natural resources, benefitting the more of 7 billion people inhabiting the world.
