Locust Watch in Caucasus and Central Asia

WHY ARE ANNUAL MEETINGS SO IMPORTANT?

Information sharing and exchange of data on locust situations, activities undertaken and results obtained are the very first steps to develop effective regional cooperation. It is therefore of utmost importance that the technicians from the different countries involved in locust management, survey and control operations meet regularly.

Annual meetings allow dissemination of experience to the mutual benefit of concerned countries, including technical discussions on lessons learnt from last campaigns and preparation of the next one; update and discussion on joint activities and regional projects implementation; information on latest developments on a number of points, such as the use of the Geographic Information System (GIS) entitled “Caucasus and Central Asia Locust Management System” (CCALM), the use of biopesticides for locust control, the use of drones and new technologies in locust management, risk reduction associated with locust control operations, etc.

WHEN ARE THEY HELD IN CCA?
