General situation during August 2026 Forecast for September 2026
The locust control campaign was successfully completed in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries, resulting in a calm situation for all locust species across all affected areas at the end of the reporting period. The lifecycle of the Moroccan locust (DMA) was completed in the Caucasus, while the lifecycles of the Italian locust (CIT) and Asian migratory locust (LMI) reached their final stages; the natural die off process is expected to continue during September. While control operations had already been completed in all Central Asia (CA) countries at the end of July, they were concluded in August in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation, with over 17 016 hectares (ha) treated that month.

Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation.

Migratory Locust (LMI) hatching and hopper development continued in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
