General situation during July 2026
Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) fledging and mating started in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Summer surveys of hoppers and adults (on egg-laying sites) continued in most countries. In July, control operations covered 682 762 hectares (ha) in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.

General situation from November 2024 till end of January 2025 Forecast until mid-March 2025 The life cycles of the three main locust species in Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) - the Moroccan Locust (DMA), Italian Locust (CIT) and Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) - concluded in late summer to early autumn. Eggs will stay in the soil in embryonic diapause, until they hatch in spring.

General situation during August 2024 Forecast for September 2024 The locust control campaign was completed in all countries by the end of the month. The locust situation was considered as calm in August, except in some areas of the Russian Federation where it was classified as caution due to flying adults of Italian (CIT) and Asian Migratory Locusts (LMI). Last treatments of 2024 were carried out on 35 554 ha in a few Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.
