General situation during July 2026
Moroccan Locust (DMA) natural cycle has been completed in all remaining parts of Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the reporting period. In Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation, DMA mating and egg-laying started. Italian Locust (CIT) die off occurred in southern Central Asia, with mating and egg-laying progressing in other parts. Fledging began in Caucasus and the Russian Federation. Asian Migratory Locust (LMI) fledging and mating started in Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. Summer surveys of hoppers and adults (on egg-laying sites) continued in most countries. In July, control operations covered 682 762 hectares (ha) in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries.

General situation during May 2024 Forecast for June 2024 Moroccan Locust (DMA) fledging and mating started in all Central Asia (CA) as well as egg-laying mainly in the southern parts. DMA hopper development continued in Azerbaijan, Georgia and the Russian Federation. The DMA situation was classified as cautious in most countries where it is present, but as dangerous in Kyrgyzstan due to outbreaks in some southern districts.

General situation during April 2024 Forecast for May 2024 Moroccan Locust (DMA) hatching and hopper development was in progress in all Caucasus and Central Asia (CCA) countries. Italian Locust (CIT) hatching had been recorded only in southern Kazakhstan at the end of April. Migratory Locust (LMI) hatching was recorded only in Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation. In the forecast period, DMA hopper development will continue in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation.

General situation during March 2024 Forecast for April 2024 Mass hatching of the Moroccan Locust (DMA) started in the three southern Central Asia (CA) countries in March mainly, during the second decade in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan and the third decade in Afghanistan. No hatching was reported elsewhere. During the forecast period, DMA hopper development will continue in the above mentioned countries.
