LCP provides technical assistance in revising Animal Health Law

31/10/2022

The World Bank financed Livestock Commercialization Project (LCP) provides technical assistance in improving the Law on Animal Health of Mongolia. A team of national and international experts have started conducting research on the law implementation to examine ways to improve the effectiveness and governance of the legislation. The team aims to provide recommendations on revisions and coordination with other legislations.

On 26 October, the team organized a consultative meeting with representatives and managers of 21 aimags and local veterinary departments at the General Authority of Veterinary Service. During the meeting, the representatives discussed challenges in the implementation of Animal Health Law at local levels; and exchanged ideas on revisions and agreed to have collaborative measures.

According to the Parliament resolution 36 on “Food Security Measures” dated June 17, 2022; and Parliament Steering Committee resolution 04 on “Measures on implementation of Animal Health Law” dated April 13, 2022, the legislative environment in animal health at national level need to be improved and revised to correlate with other legislations in Mongolia as well as international laws and standards.

Thus, the revision of the Animal Health Law will be an important step towards compliance with international standards and a precondition for increased exports of livestock products.
