Site visit to Khanbogd Soum on the development of camel milk value chain

Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Mongolia H.E. Ms Axelle Nicaise, Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Mongolia Mr Vinod Ahuja, and CEO of TESO Investment LLC Mr. Erdenebayar visited Khanbogd Soum of Umnugovi aimag to note the results of the ongoing development of camel milk value chain by "SDG-Aligned Budgeting to Transform Employment in Mongolia" project.

Within the framework of the component implemented by FAO, the project aims to increase employment in the food and agriculture sector by improving the camel milk value chain through an exemplary public-private partnership. Furthermore, the project successfully established the first camel milk producers’ cooperative named “Galbiin Gobiin Bayalag Erdene” of Mongolia and is working towards building the foundation for the development of a camel milk farm. During the visit, the Governor of Khanbogd soum, Mr. Kh.Nekhiit, emphasized the positive impact of the project results on the local economy, employment creation and alignment with soum development policies.

“SDG-aligned budgeting to transform Employment in Mongolia” project is the technical assistance (TA) component of the Budget Support Programme in Employment Reforms that the EU has signed with the Government of Mongolia. The purpose of the project is to provide effective, accountable, and responsive public services in the field of labor relations and the employment sector. It will also support the reform of the budget and financial management system and the strengthening of institutional capacity.The TA project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as technical lead, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the International Labour Organization (ILO). The Government partners of the project are the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
