FAO at the 18th Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF)

Hybrid Event, 08/05/2023 - 12/05/2023

At its 18th session, the United Nations Forum on Forests will discuss the implementation of and progress on the UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030. The interlinkages between the Global Forest Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under review at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023, the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework targets, and other forest-related developments, as well as the contributions of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), will all be part of the agenda.

An FAO delegation from the FAO Forestry Division will provide substantive inputs to the deliberations and contribute to the discussions on:

  • FAO’s implementation of the UN Strategic Plan for Forests Communication and Outreach strategy, including activities regarding the International Day of Forests;
  • The preparations for the Global Forest Resources Assessment (FRA) 2025; and
  • The panel on Emerging Issues on forests, energy, and livelihoods.

The FAO delegation will also participate in FAO’s capacity as the permanent Chair of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), including with:

  • A joint statement on behalf of the 16 members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, including the announcement of the themes for the International Day of Forests 2024 and 2025.
