The United Nations General Assembly’s 80th session (UNGA80) will officially open at UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. The high-level General Debate is scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. This milestone session will center around the theme: “Better Together: 80 Years and more for peace, development and human rights,” celebrating eight decades of global cooperation and reaffirming the UN’s commitment to a more united and equitable future.
FAO is set to play a pivotal role in shaping global conversations on agrifood systems transformation. The FAO delegation, led by Director-General QU Dongyu, including key figures from Core Leadership and Division Directors, will be present throughout the week. Their numerous engagements reflect Organization’s commitment to fostering international collaboration to address urgent food security and nutrition-related challenges, as well as advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
