Farmers' Market at the UN House in abuja

The first Farmers’ Market was successfully organized at the UN House in Abuja, in collaboration with the Office of the Resident Coordinator’s Advisor on Human Rights and the FCT Farmers Association. This initiative provided a unique opportunity for UN staff members to purchase fresh farm produce directly from local farmers, fostering a closer connection between producers and consumers.

Beyond promoting access to healthy, locally sourced food, the market had a significant economic impact: by eliminating middlemen, farmers were able to sell at fair prices and retain a larger share of the profits, thereby enhancing their income and economic stability. This direct-to-consumer model not only empowered farmers but also encouraged transparency and trust in the food supply chain.

The event marked an important step in promoting inclusive economic participation, human rights in food systems, and sustainable livelihoods for smallholder farmers.
