North Macedonia

The North Macedonia country office is one of the FAO offices in the Europe and Central Asia region, operating under the oversight of the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (REU) in Budapest. Under the leadership of FAO Deputy Regional Representative Nabil Gangi, FAO implements its country programme through a project office in Skopje, staffed by national experts. A national official in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Economy is appointed by FAO as National Correspondent to facilitate the liaison between FAO and national authorities.

Through its Technical Cooperation Programme and with support from international partners, FAO brings its expertise and technical know-how to North Macedonia based on the country’s priorities. Together with the Government, we strive to advance agricultural development, empower smallholders and family farms, and invest in a sustainable, food-secure future for the Macedonian people. Our collaboration spans diverse areas, including land tenure and management, forestry, value chain development, biosecurity and animal health, and climate change adaptation in rural areas. A continual emphasis is placed on policy and institutional support, focusing on aligning the country’s agriculture and rural sectors with European Union standards and the Sustainable Development Goals.
