About Us

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, with 194 Members, two Associate Members and one Member Organization, the European Union. FAO leads international efforts to eradicate hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition, and to promote the sustainable management and use of natural resources. Its goal is to achieve food security for all, ensuring that people have regular access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food for an active and healthy life.

The FAO Office in Papua New Guinea (FAO PNG) is one of more than 130 FAO offices worldwide, working closely with government and partners to support this goal and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. FAO has been a long-standing partner of Papua New Guinea since the country joined the Organization on 8 November 1975. This partnership was further strengthened with the establishment of a dedicated country office in 2013, marking an important step in supporting national priorities in agriculture, food security and sustainable development.
