Planning mission to Indonesia
An FAO delegation, led by the Head of the Fishing Operations and Technology Branch (FIAO), undertook a three-day mission to Jakarta (Indonesia) from 17 to 19 February 2020.
The objective of the mission was to elaborate a work plan to assist Indonesia in strengthening its capacities to implement the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) and complementary international instruments to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and fishing related activities.
The team worked with officials from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and met with representatives of the Coordination Ministry of Marine Affairs and Investment and the Ministry of Transport to discuss the main findings of the work previously developed in Indonesia, address the country’s data exchange with global systems and identify the current needs.
As a result, a three years' work plan of technical assistance to Indonesia was agreed.
The activities to be implemented between 2020 and 2022 will start immediately and are expected to contribute to strengthen the role played by Indonesia in the region in the combat against IUU fishing and fishing related activities.
In 2022 Indonesia will host the fourth Meeting of the Parties to the PSMA.
