FAO Country Programming Framework for the Republic of Maldives 2022-2026 

The Country Programming Framework (CPF) is the planning and programming tool that translates the FAO Strategic Framework into actions in the Maldives for the period 2022-2026. It is conceived in partnership with the government of Maldives and is intended to support government priorities, planning, implementation and reporting vis-à-vis the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.

Climate Change Impact on Crop Production in Sri Lanka. Challenges and adaptation options.

This policy brief explores the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka and climate change related challenges. Prolonged droughts and floods, sometimes in rapid succession, have adversely affected national crop production with cascading effects on farmers' incomes at the household level through to national gross domestic product (GDP) resulting in the contraction of the growth rate of the agriculture sector by 4 percent in 2016 and 1 percent in 2017.


Climate-smart Agriculture Case Studies 2021. Projects from around the world 

This report describes climate-smart agriculture (CSA) case studies from around the world, showing how the approach is implemented to address challenges related to climate change and agriculture. It also includes a case study on the Save and Grow projects implemented by FAO in Sri Lanka.  

 

 



Celebrating 40 Years in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka became a member nation of FAO in April 1948 and a permanent FAO Representation was established in the country in 1979, signaling a close partnership with the Government of Sri Lanka. Over the past 40 years, the FAO Representation in Sri Lanka has implemented over 400 projects in the country reaching approximately one million farming and fishing families, enabling them to build resilient livelihoods.

The Resources, Partnerships - Impact 2020 report elucidates who FAO is, what it has done, and how it has worked in collaboration with multiple stakeholders in 2019. Also, it highlights the way FAO has been adapting to changes in the development aid landscape, specifically by leveraging different kinds of funds and seeking innovative partnerships, in order to accelerate the attainment of the SDGs.

This policy brief suggests that promoting cultivation, harvesting and consumption of under-utilized food crops in home gardens is a feasible strategy to sustainably reduce micronutrient deficiencies in the Sri Lankan population.

 

 


Saru Pasa Newsletter (Sinhala language)

This newsletter is published by the Rehabilitation of Degraded Agricultural Lands in the Central Highlands Project in Sri Lanka, implemented by FAO and the Ministry of Environment and Mahaweli Development. It provides information on Sustainable Land Management (SLM) practices, soil conservation and case studies from the field.


Country Gender Assessment of Agriculture and the Rural Sector in Maldives 

The Maldives Country Gender Assessment (CGA) report was prepared to inform the country-level planning of FAO, in line with the national development priorities of Maldives and FAO's corporate Country Programme Framework (CPF) guidelines 1 and as mandated by FAO's Policy on Gender Equality. The objective of the report is to highlight existing inequalities in agriculture and rural sector in the Maldives.
