A new FAO reporting process will enable countries to update key forest data more frequently, strengthening the information needed to guide climate, biodiversity and sustainable forest management policies across Latin America.

The report, produced by INEI with technical assistance from FAO, incorporates the FIES methodology and reveals that moderate or severe food insecurity affected 30.5% of the Peruvian population in 2025.

South Sudan has taken a significant step toward strengthening its national agricultural statistics system with the successful completion of an FAO technical support mission conducted from 20 April to 1 May 2026 in Juba. Implemented under the TCP/SSD/4001 project, the mission supported the Government of South Sudan in advancing preparations for the country’s first-ever Census of Agriculture- a critical milestone for evidence‑based agricultural planning, food security monitoring, and rural development.

Measuring and monitoring SDG 12.3.1.a, the Food Loss Index, is complex and requires multiple measurement efforts to cover key food groups and stages along the agrifood chain. In this context, Mexico stands out as a regional reference by implementing a pilot exercise that approximates the calculation of this indicator using available information.
