Transforming Jordan's agrifood system towards greater sustainability and resilience

This publication outlines a joint FAO and UNIDO programme, running from September 2024 to August 2025, aimed at enhancing the sustainability and resilience of Jordan's food system in alignment with its National Food Security Strategy. Readers will learn about the key challenges facing the nation, including water scarcity and import reliance, and how the programme addresses these by focusing on the fresh fruits and vegetables sector. The factsheet details the project's three core areas of intervention: developing a sustainable citrus industry, establishing modern post-harvest infrastructure, and creating more inclusive market access for farmers. It also specifies the programme's targeted activities and its ultimate goal of fostering a climate-resilient food system that improves livelihoods and food security, with a particular emphasis on empowering vulnerable groups such as women, youth, and refugees.
