Ghana’s soybean value chain is still evolving, with production expanding since the mid‑1990s and currently engaging over 200,000 smallholder farmers, producing about 304,000 tonnes – around half of which supplies the livestock and poultry feed sector. Despite this growth, seasonal price volatility, supply shortages, limited domestic consumption, and soybean meal imports constrain sector efficiency, while roughly 40 percent of production is exported. Strengthening the soybean value chain could unlock significant potential to create rural jobs, reduce import dependence, and support a more resilient and competitive agrifood system, particularly in northern Ghana.
