The soybean value chain in Zambia Agrifood Systems Transformation Accelerator

2026
Zambia’s soybean value chain has expanded rapidly to become the country’s second most important crop after maize, driven largely by small‑scale farmers and rising demand from feed, processing, and export markets. However, despite strong growth in production, the sector remains underdeveloped due to low yields, limited value addition, and weak policy support. As a priority commodity under the CATSP, modernizing the soybean value chain presents a key opportunity to boost productivity, strengthen market linkages, and advance inclusive rural development, food security, and livelihoods.
