The coconut value chain in Lagos State, Nigeria Agrifood Systems Transformation Accelerator

2026

Coconut is the main cash crop in southwestern Nigeria, with Lagos State accounting for the majority of national production and supporting over 40,000 livelihoods, despite a long period of decline following historical and economic shifts. While the sector remains constrained by low productivity due to outdated varieties and technologies, upgrading the coconut value chain presents a strong opportunity to strengthen supply, improve incomes and nutrition, and promote a more resilient and sustainable agrifood system in Lagos State.
