FAO in Syria

The Syrian Arab Republic and FAO

The Syrian Arab Republic joined FAO in 1945, where the cooperation was strengthened with the opening of an FAO representation office in Damascus in 1978. Over the years, the collaboration focused on enhancing agricultural production and rural development as well as normative support. Since the beginning of crisis in Syria year 2011, strengthening the resilience of farmers has been a key focus of FAO activities, with interventions targeting households affected by the conflict and host communities across the country.
