International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development ICARRD+20

24–28 February 2026, Cartagena, Colombia

The International Conference on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development (ICARRD) is a global, multilateral forum dedicated to advancing land rights, rural justice, and sustainable development. The first ICARRD, held in Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2006, helped shape international commitments on equitable access to land, food security, and inclusive rural development.

Twenty years on, ICARRD+20 will take place from 24–28 February 2026 in Cartagena, Colombia, bringing renewed focus to today’s urgent rural and agrarian challenges. The conference will convene governments, international organizations, small-scale producers, Indigenous Peoples, civil society, and development partners to advance dialogue and action on equitable land governance, climate-resilient rural development, and inclusive policies for rural communities.

ICARRD+20 is more than a milestone—it is a platform for shaping policies and practices that promote land justice, strengthen food security, and ensure rural areas play a central role in sustainable development.

ICARRD+20 will convene a broad and diverse group of stakeholders, including:

  • Governments and international organizations;
  • Landholders, small-scale farmers, Indigenous Peoples, pastoralists, rural women, and youth;
  • Academics, civil society representatives and development practitioners.

Together, participants will advance dialogue and action on critical priorities such as:

  • Land rights and equitable access to land;
  • Sustainable rural development and climate resilience;
  • Inclusive policies that support and protect small-scale producers;
  • Social justice and economic opportunities for rural communities, particularly those affected by historical inequalities and environmental pressures.
