In a bold step toward transforming agricultural resilience and biosafety in Southern Africa, Tanzania hosted a landmark regional training workshop focused on digitizing plant pest surveillance systems. The five-day workshop brought together experts from National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) across the  Southern African Development Community (SADC) Member States, with technical support from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) through two EU-funded projects: Support Towards the Operationalization of the SADC Regional Agricultural Policy (STOSAR II) and Strengthening Plant Health Services in Tanzania for Enhanced Food Safety (STREPHIT).

The Minister of Agriculture of Tajikistan, H.E. Qurbon Hakimzoda and Ms Assem Abdrimova from the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, visited the FAO’s Swiss Center for Locust and Migratory Pests at its headquarters in Rome, to learn more about the FAO's efforts in supporting countries in managing locust outbreaks.
