Should we fear or welcome the 'supermarket wave' in West Africa?

ONLY IN FRENCH Few places in the world are resisting the 'supermarket wave'. Only parts of India and Africa still seem to be left out of this phenomenon. While some welcome the "supermarket revolution" as a welcome modernization of food distribution systems, others are concerned that the wave is threatening the local economy. One thing is certain: wherever it goes, this wave is shaking up food systems, imposing new demands on production, and helping to redefine consumption patterns. Is West Africa ready for these changes? What consequences can we expect, especially for family farming? |
