Dropping anchor in Mwanza: Global Learning Exchange will bring small-scale fisheries experts together in November
05/09/2025
The final activity of the Implementing the Small-Scale Fisheries Guidelines for gender-equitable and climate-resilient food systems and livelihoods project will be the Global Learning Exchange in Mwanza, United Republic of Tanzania, from 18 to 20 November 2025. Unlike previous events focused on presentations, this exchange will center on field visits and peer-to-peer learning.
Over fifty participants will engage with women’s fish processing initiatives, Village Community Banks, and both Nile perch and dagaa fisheries along Lake Victoria. The agenda includes framing presentations on Day 1, immersive field visits on Day 2, and reflective discussions on Day 3, ensuring that lessons are contextualized and actionable for participating countries.
This will be a unique opportunity for FAO staff and small-scale fisheries actors to witness, discuss and exchange on practical innovations and explore pathways for sustaining results beyond the project. The exchange will also serve as a milestone to mark the conclusion of the FVC-funded project and to bridge into the recent SIDA-funded global initiative, Enhancing equitable, climate-resilient and sustainable small-scale fisheries through the SSF Guidelines implementation.
