This indicator focuses on active public crop breeders in the country of the reporting National Focal Point (NFP).
It is based on information reported in response to question 9.3 of the Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.
Question 9.3 requests the NFP to provide the number of active public or private crop breeders for the different crop groups specifying the year of the information. Optionally, the source of the information can also be also indicated.
The term ‘breeder’ refers to a natural person and not to a company. In this question, the number of breeders working on individual crops groups should be provided. In case a breeder is responsible for more than one crop group (tick the respective crop group), unique combinations of crop groups should be reported and he/she should be counted only once. For example: 3 breeders working on cereals; 1 breeder working on cereals and grain legumes; 2 breeders working on cereals, grain legumes and forages. The total number of breeders is 7.
Information from question 9.3 fulfills indicators 33 and 34 of the Second GPA.

The indicator is calculated as the sum total of active public crop breeders in the country during the reporting period.

Public crop breeders, total is the sum total of active public crop breeders in the selected country/region reported by the NFP for the reporting period/.

A map showing reporting countries is displayed using a colour gradient based on the total number of active public crop breeders in the selected country/region reported by the NFP for the reporting period. Actual country data are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the country in the map.
A histogram of the total values is displayed by CGRFA regions. Actual values are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the histogram bar.
