This indicator focuses on seed produced at the local level (neighbouring areas with similar agro-ecological conditions) out of that made available through disaster response interventions in the country of the reporting Stakeholder.
It is based on information reported in response to question 3.1 of the Reporting Format for Monitoring the Implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for PGRFA.
Question 3.1 requests the Stakeholder to provide the name of the area affected by disasters, the disaster date and type, the name of the crop or preferably the name of taxon reintroduced, the amount and origin of seed distributed during the reporting period and the number of beneficiary households during the reporting period. Optionally, the name of the variety(ies) reintroduced, reintroduction date, the seed relief methodology used, the source of the germplasm and type of assessment made to guide the intervention can also be indicated.
‘Seed(s)’ refer to botanical seed as well as other vegetatively propagated planting materials such as root or tubers, corms and cuttings.
Information from question 3.1 fulfills both indicator 7 and indicator 8 of the Second GPA.
The information is provided according to a table as described below.
Column descriptions:
Name of disaster area link:aretab
Type of disaster
• Flood • Fire • Typhoon/hurricane • Drought • Civil war • International war • Other (please specify)
Other types of disaster

Variety(ies) reintroduced link:cultab
Date of reintroduction (YYYY/MM)
Seed aid provided
□ Through direct seed distribution
□ Indirectly, through a market-based approach (e.g. voucher schemes, seed fairs)
□ Community seed multiplication
Source of germplasm/seed
• Community seed bank • National genebank • Regional genebank • International genebank • Farmers • Commercial agencies • Other (please specify)
Other sources of germplasm/seed
Assessments carried out
□ To characterize the functioning of seed systems at farmers’ level
□ To evaluate the impact of a disaster on farmers’ seed systems
The indicator is calculated as the percentage of seed produced at the local level out of that made available through disaster response interventions in the country during the reporting period.
Show Data
National Focal Point rating for the country/region selected is displayed.
Seeds locally produced, total (g) is the sum total of seed (in grams) produced at the local level out of that made available through disaster response interventions of the selected county/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.
Seeds distributed/made available, total (g) is sum total of seed (in grams) distributed/made available through disaster response interventions of the selected county/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.
Seed locally produced, percent is the percentage of seed produced at the local level out of that made available through disaster response interventions of the selected county/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period.
Visualize Data
A map showing reporting countries is displayed using a colour gradient based on the percentage of seed produced at the local level out of that made available through disaster response interventions of the selected county/region reported by the Stakeholder for the reporting period. Actual country data are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the country in the map.
A histogram of the percentages is displayed by CGRFA regions. Actual values are depicted as a pop-up box when the mouse is placed over the histogram bar.
