This publication focuses on the operational aspects for conducting a census of agriculture. It deals with the practical details on the steps involved in actually conducting an agricultural census. Volume 2 is a revised and updated edition of “Conducting Agricultural Censuses and Surveys”, published by FAO in 1996.

This publication provides guidance on agricultural censuses carried out by countries in the period between 2016 and 2025. The WCA 2020 will ensure that data collected are comparable at the international level while also addressing emerging information needs of the 21st century.

It provides selected data on number and area of holdings, gender of the holder, farm population, employment, land tenure, land use, main crops, livestock, irrigation and machinery and equipment.

This publication aims to provide practical guidance for population and housing census and agricultural census planners looking to implement a cost-effective census strategy by coordinating the population and housing census with the agricultural census.

This publication reports the main characteristics of the structure of agriculture in countries as defined by the characteristics of agricultural holdings, gender of holder, land tenure and land use, crops, livestock, etc., and the metadata on each agricultural census covered in the publication.

2007

This publication assists countries in the conduct of their national census of agriculture. It provides guidance on the integrated system approach to agricultural censuses and surveys and recommends, for the first time, a modular approach to the census of agriculture with the core census module and the supplementary modules. Also available in French and Spanish.

This publication is a supplement to the definitions, concepts and standards presented in the Programme for the World Census of Agfriculture 2000.
