Virtual meeting: ''Women in extensive livestock farming'' on 19 May 2021

Over the last few years, much has been said about the role of women in the rural environment as one of the pillars that support day-to-day life in Spain. Although the presence of women in the livestock sector is a determining factor in the activity, their reality and experiences have been largely made invisible. It is not surprising that until now there has been a huge gap in the field of research on women's relations with livestock farming in the country.

To improve this situation, the association Trashumancia y Naturaleza, with the support of World Wildlife Fund Spain and the MAVA Foundation, has produced the report "Co-creating knowledge for action with women in the pastoralist environment in Spain". The presentation will take place on 19 May in a virtual meeting organised by the University of Vic, which can be followed from 17:00 to 19:00 CET.

The study is conducted by Maria Fernández-Giménez from Colorado State University, Elisa Oteros Rozas from the Department of Agroecology and Food Systems at the University of Vic and Federica Ravera from the University of Girona. It is funded by  Trashumancia y Naturaleza, the MAVA Foundation, several research grants and supported by other organisations.

The presentation will include a round table ''Collaborations between women livestock farmers, researchers, technicians and activists'' with the participation of Helena Guillén Díaz (Ramaderes de Catalunya), Pilar Sebrango (Ganaderas en Red), Elena Escaño (Finca Montefrío) and Santiaga Sánchez Porcel (Ganaderas en Red and Alvelal).

The report "Women and wool in the pasture: gender perspective of the wool supply chain in Spain", by Marta Torres Herrero, will also be presented.
