Challenges and opportunities in building partnerships to enhance agricultural water investments in Africa to achieve green growth objectives set under the Ten year strategy of the Bank

The objective of the Project is to evaluate past experiences, draw lessons learned and formulate recommendations to guide and inform the Banks future investments in Agricultural Water Management (AWM) projects in Africa.

The specific objectives are to:

  • Assess the fifteen years (1990-2005) of projects funded by the Bank on AWM;
  • Provide recommendations for agricultural water-related investments that can be supported by the Bank in specific countries in Africa;
  • Draw a list of challenges and opportunities and framework in building partnerships to enhance Agricultural Water Investments in Africa and to achieve Green Growth objectives of the Bank;
  • Assess the establishment of a strategic partnership for the Bank in Africa for more integrated and sustainable development approaches in AWM;
  • Assess the establishment of links and implement policy liaison at Pan-African level, based upon the experiences of the strategic partnership in Africa and activities of the main civil society institutions.
