Stakeholders across the One Health spectrum convened for global collaborative action against AMR
On 11 July, the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform held a virtual Information Session. Over 90 stakeholders, who represent the Platform members, convened for the first time. The purpose of the meeting was to engage members and provide them key information about the Platform’s activities. The session also aimed to pave the way for collective actions to address AMR through a One Health approach.
The Information Session kick-started with a warm welcome from Dr. Haileyesus Getahun, Director of AMR Global Coordination at the World Health Organization (WHO), and Dr. Keith Sumption, Chief of the Joint Centre for Zoonotic Diseases and AMR (CJWZ) at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). They spoke on behalf of the Quadripartite (FAO, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), WHO and WOAH (World Organisation for Animal Health) and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to tackle AMR comprehensively. Next, the floor was given to the Platform's Coordinating Team to present the Platform’s key objectives, operating mechanisms, activities, timeline, and the Virtual Hub for Members.
A notable highlight of the session was the segment dedicated to the Action Groups proposals, which sparked exceptional interest among participants. These groups are designed to be dynamic teams centred around specific themes, composed of diverse stakeholders, pooling their expertise and resources to develop and implement actionable initiatives to tackle AMR at local, regional, and global levels.
During the interactive session, there were lively discussions and knowledge exchanges. The members showcased their eagerness to contribute actively to the Platform's mission.
The Information Session concluded on a promising note as members expressed their enthusiasm to join or propose Action Groups aligned with their expertise and areas of interest. It was clear throughout the session that everyone shared a common goal of addressing AMR challenges through collaborative and action-driven efforts.

The AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform aims to catalyse a global movement for action against AMR by fostering cooperation between a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels across the One Health spectrum. It seeks to ensure a healthier, more sustainable and resilient present and future in which antimicrobials are preserved as critical lifesaving medicines accessible to everyone.
