Wye Group Handbook

Statistics on rural development and agricultural household income

Welcome to the electronic version of the second edition of the Wye Group Handbook. This page provides some instructions on how to use the handbook.

• The Handbook PDF will display bookmarks on the left-hand side of the page. You may navigate through the chapters by clicking on the bookmark tabs. A plus sign next to a chapter element indicates there are sub-units below; click on the plus/minus sign to expand/contract the view.

• Once you begin clicking and browsing through the text and focus pieces, the "Back" button is useful to return to your previous place on a page. The Back button appears by default in most Readers, and it looks like the icon highlighted in the screen shot below. If you do not see this tool, right click on the toolbar (anywhere on the gray area in the screen shot below) and choose Page Navigation > Previous View and the icon will appear.

• You can print the pages associated with bookmarks directly from the Bookmarks tab. Bookmarks appear in a hierarchy, with parent bookmarks and child (dependent) bookmarks. If you print a parent bookmark, all page content associated with child-level bookmarks also print. Select one or more bookmarks, and then right-click the selection. Choose Print Page(s) from the menu that pops up.

• You can search the entire text of the Handbook for key words or phrases through the built-in "Find" function. The Find button appears by default in most Readers, and it looks like the icon highlighted in the screen shot below. If you do not see this tool, right click on the toolbar and choose Edit > Find.

• If you prefer to navigate through the Handbook in a more traditional way, you may use the "Table of Contents" and "List of Focus Pieces" at the beginning of the document. On these pages, all content items are "clickable" and will take you to the desired section of the Handbook. Remember the "Back" button when you want to return to the contents listing at the place you left. Complete References, Focus Piece References, and Further Readings are available at the end of each Chapter.
