Localized Routes to Market - Understanding the Community Benefits of Local Organic Food

One of our food system's main challenges is the inadequate relationship between the cost of production and production factors as a whole. Therefore, food production and distribution systems are often at a disadvantage to local producers.

New research reveals the benefits for farmers and growers, local suppliers, citizens, and the environment based on the purchase of organic food through farmers' market or vegetable programs. It demonstrates the importance of food purchasing as an agricultural act with far-reaching consequences.

New Economics Foundation (NEF), in collaboration with Growing Communities and the Soil Association, highlights this situation with an innovative analysis. This session explored data from customers, volunteers, employees, farmers and producers, environmental research and demonstrates how to monetize the value of local and green supply chains, now recognized as valuable ''public commodities''.

The event was part of the ''Oxford Real Farming'' Conference in 2021.
