Webinar: Impacts, challenges and strategies of family farming to cope with COVID-19, 27 May, at 09.00 in Ecuador (GMT-5)
FAO together with the United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF) Secretariat, the Forest and Farm Facility, the FAO Regional office for Latin America and the Caribbean, FAO Strategic Objective 3 Reduce Rural Poverty and the FAO Office for South-South and Triangular Cooperation (OSS) launches a Series of Global Webinars “Towards Resilient Family Farming - Solutions from producer organizations”. The first event of the series will focus on impacts, challenges and strategies of family farming to cope with COVID-19. An exchange between regional organizations and platforms in Latin America and the Caribbean, and forest and farm producer organizations (FFPOs) from Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala and Uruguay will take place. This first webinar is an opportunity to learn about the perspectives of family farmers and producer organizations, and to exchange good practices, successful experiences and the solutions created to address the health crisis caused by COVID-19.
In addition to the health measures adopted by governments, the pandemic caused by COVID-19 requires coordinated responses to protect the most vulnerable sectors and to maintain efficient, inclusive and resilient agri-food systems that are sensitive to food and nutritional security and sovereignty. Consequently, these responses are needed to mitigate the social and economic impacts, to rethink social and economic relationships in post-pandemic scenarios, and to ensure the continuity of the contribution of family farming.
