Liberia re-joins Forest and Farm Facility as a network country

22/04/2021

Liberia has re-joined the FFF as a network country. A Letter of Agreement was signed on 16 April with the Farmer Union Network of Liberia (FUN) and the National Charcoal Union (NACUL). The two organizations will support farmers and forest producers as primary change agents to build climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods. Liberia had been a core partner country during FFF Phase 1 between 2012-2017.

The partnership aims at strengthening smallholders, women, community and Indigenous Peoples’ producer organizations while sustainably managing forest and farm resources and deepening their policy engagement.

“We are pleased to be again working with producer organizations in Liberia. Some really useful work lies ahead, including NACUL’s plans to mobilize and organize charcoal producers and FUN’s engagement with cashew producers. All this will contribute to building resilient communities and sustainable agriculture in Liberia,” said Mariatou Njie, FAO Representative in Liberia.

The long-term goal is to improve food security and livelihoods of the local forest and farm producers. This will be done by enhancing producer organizations-inclusive governance, supporting business development skills and incubation the oragnizations, and supporting improved appropriate technologies to contribute to climate mitigation and climate resilience.
