• Monitoring of Crops, Rangelands and Food Security at National Level - A very comprehensive in-depth self-study tutorial for WinDisp users on CD-ROM produced for use in developing countries by the Agriculture, Conservation and Environment Division of the International Institute for Aerospace Survey and Earth Sciences (ITC) in the Netherlands. The ITC tutorial is available in English and French and information on purchasing the CD can be obtained from the Agriculture, Conservation and Environment (ACE) Division, ITC, PB 6, 7500 AA Enschede, Netherlands.

• WinDisp3 Self-Study Guide: Displaying and Analysing NDVI-Derived Images for Vegetation Greenness and Fire Potential Assessment - Section 1 - A tutorial developed by Roberta A. Bartlette at the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, Fire Sciences Laboratory located in Missoula, Montana USA as part of the "NDVI Data And Support Tools" (see below) the Forest Service are distributing over the Internet.

On-line data bases:

• The USDA Forest Service NDVI Data And Support Tools: This site is maintained and updated by the Wildland Fire Assessment System at the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station in Missoula, Montana US. The data provided on-line are the current NDVI as well as "departure from average" images of the United States which is partitioned into 42 separate image blocks (each block is about 307 Kb), along with cartographic data for cities, administrative boundaries, as well as WinDisp3 color tables for viewing the data.

• USGS EROS Data Center Africa Data Dissemination Service (ADDS) - This site provides NDVI images produced at the Laboratory for Terrestrial Physics at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and estimated rainfall (RFE) images produced by the Climate Prediction Center at NOAA. All images are for Africa and are in 8-bit raw binary format and can easily be imported for use in WinDisp. The ADDS site also provides and extensive collection of digital maps for Africa in ArcInfo Export (E00) format that need to be converted first to ArcInfo format, and then exported to BNA format for use in WinDisp.

• NASA's Global Land Biosphere Data and Information Web Site - This site is part of the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC). The Land Biosphere Data website provides on-line access to the Pathfinder Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Land (PAL) Data. These data include 10-day NDVI images for the period 1981-1994 at 8 x 8 km and 1 x 1 degree resolutions in 8-bit binary format. The data can be downloaded for the globe or by continental tiles and are in the Goodes Interrupted Homolosine Projection which is supported by WinDisp 3.5.
