Study determines economic impact of agricultural biotechnology in Puerto Rico

The recent first study on the economic impact of the agricultural biotechnology industry in Puerto Rico, showed that the agricultural biotechnology industry is a source of employment and economic activity that contributes significantly to development.

José J. Villamil, Chief Executive of Estudios Técnicos, Inc., stressed that the agricultural biotechnology industry "... offers the country important economic benefits, particularly in southern Puerto Rico. In light of Puerto Rico's current economic situation, these activities hold greater importance, not only because of their economic impacts but also considering Puerto Rico's future as a jurisdiction apt for technologically sophisticated activities. "
