This is intended to generate alternatives to the livestock sector, boosting the archipelago's internal economy.

The Special Government Regime Council of Galapagos, Ecuador, approved the restriction of yogurt imports to the archipelago, upon the request of the local livestock sector, which aims to encourage domestic production and consumption, as expressed in a statement published on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG).

In order to implement this measure, an inter-institutional round table will be created, consisting of competent organizations and representatives of the productive sector. Cattle ranchers of Galapagos argue that they have implemented improvements in the quality of their products and that there will be an available market following this measure.
